वॉशिंगटन(CNN) News

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A government report released Thursday paints an alarming picture of an unstable future for international relations defined by waning American influence, a fragmentation of political power and intensifying struggles for increasingly scarce natural resources.

The report aims to better inform policymakers, starting with the administration of President-elect Barack Obama .

The report, "Global Trends 2025: A Transformed World," was drafted by the National Intelligence Council to better inform U.S. policymakers -- starting with the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama -- about the factors most likely to shape major international trends and conflicts through the year 2025.
"Although the United States is likely to remain the single most powerful actor, the United States' relative strength -- even in the military realm -- will decline and U.S. leverage will become more constrained," says the report, which is the fourth in a series from the Intelligence Council.
The report argues that the "international system -- as constructed following the second World War -- will be almost unrecognizable by 2025 owing to the rise of emerging powers, a globalizing economy, an historic transfer of relative wealth and economic power from West to East, and the growing influence of nonstate actors."
It argues that the world is in the midst of an unprecedented "transfer of global wealth and power" -- from West to East -- that is being fueled by long-term "increases in oil and commodity prices" along with a gradual shift of manufacturing and certain service industries to Asia.
And yet, while American power and influence are projected to decline, America's burdens are not.
"Despite the recent rise in anti-Americanism, the U।S. probably will continue to be seen as a much-needed regional balancer in the Middle East and Asia," the report notes.>>मोरे>>

The American Journey of Barack Obama

For decades Americans have turned to LIFE to see, understand, and remember the most important events and people of our time. Just as LIFE once opened up the glittering Kennedy White House, LIFE now focuses its lens on Barack Obama. The American Journey of Barack Obama covers the candidate from his childhood and adolescence to his time as editor of The Harvard Law Review and his Chicago activist years, culminating with the excitement and fervor of the historic 2008 Democratic National Convention. The unfolding drama of Obama's life and political career is cinematic in scope, and never has it been presented so compellingly. In addition to a powerful array of photographs that were taken by many of the country's greatest photographers (and some that were snapped, in the quiet moments, by Obama family members themselves), this book also includes a Foreword by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, an incisive narrative biography and original essays by some of our finest writers, including Gay Talese, Charles Johnson, Melissa Fay Greene, Andrei Codrescu, Fay Weldon, Richard Norton Smith, Bob Greene and several others. Many readers will find a new understanding of Obama. All readers will feel that they are bearing witness to a singular, undeniably American story.

Editorial Reviews
Review "The phenomenon that is Barack Obama has intrigued us all. Who is Barack Obama? The editors of LIFE have gone a very long way toward helping us all answer this question. Senator Obama's singularly American life has been characterized by tragedy and triumph, drama and despair, anxiety and anticipation, and, ultimately, enormous excitement and the deepest historical significance. In this book, Obama's tale is told in all of its dimensions, from the mistakes he has made and the obstacles he has confronted and overcome, to his moments of almost sublime and glorious transcendence. With spectacular photographs--funny, surprising, exceptional in detail--combined with a highly readable narrative, Obama's biography comes to life, from his youth in Hawaii to his roots in Africa, from Harvard to Chicago and, eventually, to his life as a public servant in Washington. Who is Barack Obama? Read these compelling words and study these exceptionally candid and beautiful photographs and discover the answer for yourself." (Henry Louis Gates, Jr. )
About the Author LIFE has long been one of the country's pre-eminent publishers of periodicals and books, and is renowned for its presentation of photography. The editors who bring you THE AMERICAN JOURNEY OF BARACK OBAMA are the same who created One Nation: America Remembers September 11, 2001, also published by Little, Brown, which reached No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list and was hailed by The Wall Street Journal as "a thorough and thoughtful telling."

Customer Reviews
Great Gift I gave this book to two young men as a gift. I ordered it so I never saw it but trusted the other reviews. The men truly enjoyed the gift and mentioned that they would treasure it. One of the men has a collection of books. He stated that friends interested in seeing his book would have to wash their hands first because he doesn't want anyone to ruin the wonderful photos. I plan to order more for Christmas gifts!

Great I received the product in great timing and really enjoy the book. Even my 10 year old enjoys looking at the photos and information inside. Wonderful!
The Simple Life of a Great Man Many times has it has been said, Barack Obama comes from humble roots: an absent father, being raised by his grandparents in Hawaii, excels and acheives all the way to Harvard. His meteoric rise, the result of a supportive extended family, and a fierce intellect, is inspirational enough. Life has taken that story, and told it again, this time, accompanied by some of the most touching and revealing pictures I have seen of Obama yet.

The pictures span his own life, from childhood to the present, and offer a glimpse into the world of this man who might be about 44th president. The pictures of his childhood are absolutely endearing, and show what a diverse world Obama came from. Growing up in Hawaii, he was often the only student with partial African-American heritage in his classes, and he recounts how kids wanted to touch his hair because it was so different. One picture of his grandmother hugging him at his graduation reveals intense love and pride she had; it's one of my favorites just because of the look on her face.

As Barack grows up, the man that we see today starts to take shape; out of college, this gangly community organizer meets his future wife Michelle Obama, and a glimpse into their love and their relationship shows up in the book. I am always particularly touched by any picture of Barack and his girls. They are poignant, fun, and show Obama in the role he probably loves best: dad.

One final photo in a book of trememdous photos really brings Barack to the everyday man: a picture of him with his feet up, and holes in the bottom of the soles of his shoes. I look in my closet, and see most of my shoes with the same problem, and I realize how much like me, like all of us, this man truly is. Life has created a book that anyone, Barack Obama voter or not, would be proud to have on their shelf, in their collection.

Fun and sophisticated, even if you're all thumbs I attended a class Jodi taught making some of these bags (and I've bought the book) and I want to tell you that even if you're not crafty or artistic, you can get great-looking results--and have fun! Who has time to knit and sew? But stapling I can handle! The secret is the great materials Jodi uses, and she's really thought through, and clearly explained, the process so anyone can follow it--even me! The class, with lots of working moms, was fun and therapeutic--I think it would make a fun pre-teen birthday party, or alternative to a book group.
If she was on Martha... OK, I am giving her 5 stars even though I have not seen her book yet. BUT I did see her just now on "Martha" and if she explains in the book as well as she did on the show, then I want this book and will be putting in my next order from Amazon. These bags are easy-squeasy! Here in oregon, we are known for being environmentally concerned. That said, most grocery stores are going away from those awful plastic bags that clog up our landfill and have a shelf-life of 2,000 years. Using nice handled, reuseable bags is THE way to go and I plan to make several of Jodi's bags for gifts and for my own use for grocery shopping. Jodi's directions were super (on the show) and the design is basic. I could see Den Mothers/Leaders using this as a great Girl Scout or Boy Scout craft project idea. Or me and my friends sitting around making these in a group while discussing the latest things going on in our lives. Fun!!
Darling and Creative I had the pleasure of meeting Jodi at the Country Living Fair in Ohio and got a preview of this book. I love that the bags are simple, yet so creative. The illustrations are well done and easy to understand and the photography is wonderful. This is such a fun book.
